Rita J. Jones, 58, with over 30 years of experience in medical offices, left her last job after 6 years because of a dispute with her supervisor and looked at this as opportunity to relocate to South Carolina and be closer to her grandchildren.  “A fresh start and preparing for my ‘elder years’ was what I was thinking” said Jones. She had always worked hard and had come back from a divorce to support herself.

She understood that unless you have a computer, a printer, and a fax machine, you can't apply for jobs. Jones felt lucky that she was computer literate.

She signed up with several employment agencies anxious to get her in and on their register, but never got a call back. “I'm not sure what this means unless they (just) have a sign-up quota” she lamented.

She had also sent out over 80 resumes in four months. “I was so frustrated by my fruitless efforts that I wrote Oprah and President Bush about the plight of not finding work.” said Jones.

Willing to work, and wanting to work Jones was running out of time and money. Find out what she did to make a difference in her life.

What is the reason Jones has for getting out of bed everyday?

What are the compromises she has had to make?
