A Remodeled Life with a Coffee Break
Meet Tom Farley a family man who fondly remembers enjoying the simple things in life like taking his kids for an ice cream cone. Now he has to work three jobs and some 18 hour days to make ends meet. "Underemployment causes you to work 80 hour weeks with no rewards." claims Farley.
After learning computers in the army, Tom started in information technologies when main frames were state-of-the-art. Beginning his career in field service, he worked long hours trouble shooting the most challenging problems, and went to college to earn his degree at night. Working on Wall Street in New York City, and then for a large insurance company he climbed the corporate ladder to director of communications, and eventually assistant vice president.
He worked in his field for several years, until his company downsized in the 90's causing him to become resourceful about work. He opened a power wash company, while looking for work in his field. Finally, through a connection he was recruited back and faithfully served a small IT company, until he got work with the Associated Press at half his VP salary, running all of their computer systems. When new young management came in and cut back on the size of the building and staff "they decided to let go of almost everyone who was over 50 years old with minimal retirement packages." Tapping into his resourcefulness, he started a coffee supply business for restaurants and country clubs which he still runs.
"Deep down you feel like you are doing something wrong and nobody out there is willing to help, that won't change until people take a stand."
