Bridging the Generation Gap

Paul Arfin is the president and CEO of Intergenerational Strategies, an organization whose vision is "a Long Island that values all generations." They believe that "every person, younger and older, is a resource and adds value. Arfin says this of his second career, "(it) combats the lethargy I would feel if I didn't continue to have purpose and meaning in my life".

As one of the sponsors for "Aging Isn't a Four Letter Word Seminar" this past June, Afrin takes issues related to aging seriously. He believes the way to stop discrimination between the ages is to create a sense of community. He has become an advocate to change the public attitude.

"This ageism that we have in society is so pervasive...(At work) each company is a community and if that community is not intergenerational that leads towards ageist attitudes, the underlying theory here is involvement begets understanding and commitment." sites Arfin.

Paul questions, "How do we help the employer to change the work climate to make it more worker friendly?" Mark his suggestions.

See what he is doing to get the facts out there about older people to challenge the deeply ingrained assumptions we all have about age.
